Health Tips for Visitors

Food and Drink

Tap water is normally chlorinated, and whilst relatively safe may cause mild abdominal upsets. Bottled water (Serbian: voda) is available in all shops and is advised for the first few weeks of the stay.

Milk is pasteurized and dairy products are safe for consumption.

Local meat, poultry, seafood, fruit and vegetables are generally considered safe to eat.

Health Care

Doctors are well trained but public medical facilities are limited. Many medicines and basic medical supplies are often unavailable or available with prescription only and must be paid for. Hospitals usually require cash payments. Health insurance with emergency reimbursement is essential. Visitors may be asked to pay first and seek reimbursement later.

In case of health problems, we advise visiting one of the private clinics which are more present recently.
